Notice of Elections
September 19, 2026 — Backfill Election for Scheduling Chair
Attention Members: At the regularly scheduled Group Conscience Meeting on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 3:15 PM Eastern, there will be an election for the Scheduling Chair position.
If you are interested in holding the position or intend to nominate someone, please contact secretary@aahomegroup.org.
Please include the following information:
- The person you will nominate, if other than yourself
- Position for nomination
- How the nominee meets the qualifications, including sobriety time
- Optional: Whether the nominee will attend the election
If you plan to nominate someone, please confirm in advance that they will accept the nomination and meet the position requirements. This will save time on Election Day.
You must be present at the Group Conscience Meeting to formally nominate your candidate.
aaHomeGroup accepts nominations from the floor. The nominee must meet the requirements and must either be present or have notified the Steering Committee beforehand that they would accept a nomination.
To ensure timely and smooth elections, members are highly encouraged to submit qualifications and nominations in advance.
General Eligibility Information
Per the aaHomeGroup Bylaws:
- Nominees should have the minimum sobriety time required for the position.
- Mandatory sobriety and experience requirements for certain officers cannot be waived.
- For other positions, the Group Conscience may waive minimum sobriety or experience requirements by motion and majority vote during the election.
- Only members who have been in active, continual service on aaHomeGroup for the six months preceding the election are eligible for an elected position.
- A member removed from an elected position may not be nominated for another elected position within one year.
- A member who voluntarily steps down may later be nominated and elected.

aaHomeGroup Election Procedures
The Chair will announce that it is time for the election, and the following actions will take place:
- Chat will be closed.
- The setting allowing participants to unmute themselves will be turned off.
- The Chair will turn the proceedings over to the Secretary.
Secretary
- The Secretary announces the position, reads emailed nominations, and opens the floor for additional nominations.
- Each nomination must receive a second.
- The Secretary confirms that the nominee accepts and qualifies for the position.
- A nominee does not have to be present if they previously notified the Steering Committee that they would accept the nomination.
- If only one qualified person is nominated, that person is automatically appointed.
- If multiple qualified nominees accept, a vote will take place.
- Each nominee has two to three minutes, depending on the number of nominees, to verbally qualify. A proxy qualification is accepted when the nominee is absent.
- After qualifying, nominees will be placed in the Waiting Room.
- Discussion opens for members to speak for or against each nominee. Each member may speak once per nominee for 90 seconds.
- The Secretary calls for the vote. Each voting member must be on camera.
- The Steering Committee counts the votes and takes a screenshot for the record. The nominee with the most votes wins; the Chair casts the deciding vote in a tie.
- The nominees return from the Waiting Room, and the Secretary announces the result.
- The process continues until all positions are filled. The Secretary runs the elections except for the Secretary position, when the Alternate Secretary or Chair steps in.
Bylaw Ad Hoc Committee
Section 7 — Amendments: Discussion Question
In our outdated Bylaws, Section 7 — Amendments stated that amendments to the Bylaws required substantial unanimity (a 2/3 vote) by the Steering Committee, followed by a simple majority vote by the Group Conscience.
With the dissolution of the Steering Committee, the following question is being presented for consideration by the Group Conscience:
Discussion Question
Should Section 7 state that changes to the Bylaws require a simple majority vote or substantial unanimity (2/3) vote of the Group Conscience?
Yours in A.A. service,
Jeff B.
